About the Studio
Tom Barlow Architecture is an architecture practice with studios in Vancouver and Revelstoke, working across British Columbia. Every project is led by Tom Barlow, an AIBC-registered architect, from first sketch to completion.
Tom’s roots are European and his experience is international. He started in the trades and has since worked in architecture and construction across the UK, Central Europe, the US, Australia and Canada. That range of building cultures, codes and construction methods shapes how we design.
We’re drawn to buildings with substance at any scale: mass timber, renovation and reuse, and projects where materials and craft matter. Alongside that, we take on tenant improvements and resolve the code and permit issues that hold projects back.
Sustainability runs through all of it: keeping what’s worth keeping, building in timber, and detailing for the long term.
We aim for buildings that are honest and robust.
Tom Barlow
Architect (AIBC)
Tom’s path to architecture ran through the trades alongside formal education in architecture and structural design.
That time on-site, running jobs and seeing how drawings actually survive construction, shows up in the work: materials specified for how they perform, details drawn for how they’re actually built, and buildings that hold up once construction starts testing the drawings.
Clients work with Tom directly, from concept through construction administration, with no hand-offs to junior staff along the way. The studio is deliberately small, taking on a limited number of projects at a time in order to give each one full attention.
